Changes in requirements of the combustion engine industry have driven our customer and Gehring L.P. to develop new honing processes and new machine tools.

A particular example is “Laser Structuring”. Developed during the 1990’s, this method combines the technologies of Gehring L. P.’s advanced honing systems with Laser accuracy and speed.

The result is an optimal tribological condition that lowers frictional forces, increases service life and reduces emissions. As an engineered surface, this advanced technique can be used to optimize not only the components being honed but also the product system as a whole.
