China is booming: In 2005 the automobile manufacturer's in the Asian growth market expect production increase of up to 30 percent, including a growing share of diesel cars. The Gehring company will participate in this boom. The subcontractor and world market leader in honing technology is already, as a pioneer, present in the Chinese market for almost 20 years. In addition, Gehring has not only a very important experience in manufacturing, but also a very reliable reputation.

Managing Director Dorothee Stein-Gehring: ”Quality plays a decisive part. If you deliver a good product this information will be spread around by word-of-mouth recommendation. Surprisingly, in this way many people get to know Gehring in a positive way. In addition, in China there are many companies – especially within the ancillary industry -who make use of honing. Companies who do not prepare their start in Asia carefully are facing threats and these dangers: Quality fluctuations then spread like wild fire – a typical Chinese characteristic”.

In August 2003 Gehring extended its long standing involvement in the Chinese market with the foundation of Gehring Machine Tool Co. Ltd in Shanghai. At the moment, in this enlarged enterprise, tool rework is under way as well as the production of single tools and honing stones, diamonds and abrasives. These components are needed for treatment of modern car engines, diesel injectors and in general for drilling. The appropriate processing machines are being produced at Gehring`s parent company in Germany. In China, the spare part and service sector offers the customers individual and competent service on site. In order to meet all customers requests this area will be expanded further. Altogether Gehring employs 25 employees at Gehring Machine Tool Co.,Ltd (Shanghai).

In the future Gehring expects further strong sales increases in China. Besides the already mentioned areas, the service area offerings in the field of maintenance contracts, will be expanded. More recently Gehring Shanghai also offers job shops and rework. Even though these activities were not customary in the Chinese market the honing specialists can already register first order successes.

From 22-25 September, 2005, Gehring is organizing the first in-house trade fair in China in Shanghai.
